why participate
in the dot-root project?
how much will it cost? |
|
1 |
A minimum load and cost for a
maximum return:
- any Pentium as a machine : we
look for experiments rather than for power.
- a permanent access at a stable
IP address (low traffic)
- a professionnal but limited
involvement, may be someone who wants to enhance his or her resume
|
|
2 |
A simple decision: join to improve
your competence and image. For example as a sponsor for a local
university. |
|
3 |
Universities project managers will
share in the ULD ".univ". Dot-Root Members will in this
way support with their machine their own projects within the
synergy of a large, interested; competent and diverse community.
This will be an occasion for their students to develop, check
and report much more exciting and teaching projects. |
|
4 |
Lawyers interested in the Internet
name space can join and become legal experts reporting to their
government and legislators, on consistency with technical reality
and with international positions. They may serve as international
trustee or national Name Managers, for the test ".lex" ULD. |
|
5 |
A consulting firm may want to coach
projects, build a local center of DNS expertise, propose specialized
training, and share in the anticipated business opportunities
(see below). They may also manage their own ULD as a test bed
for new applications or societal impacts for famous mark ULDs. |
|
6 |
All of them will have their name
and logo listed on the dot-root sites and can invite local professionals
to join the dot-root mailing lists, creating a pool of expertise
they may call upon. |
|
7 |
They will inform and relate to the
local ccTLD, being an R&D, information and support Center
at its disposal, and a back-up in case of emergency. They will
also relate with the local Internet community ( @large ). |
|
8 |
They will seek local grants, financing,
and sponsorship for technical education and R&D in a key
area, to the benefit of their local and of the global Internet
community. |
|
9 |
Through the relationship formed
on the dot-root mailing lists, project dot-root will most probably
foster interesting technical and business opportunities likely
to bring in a good return for each partner.
These may be in areas such as:
- project management and real-time
operations services with high exposure
- secure collection of international
public information
- international cooperation, concerted
governance, and operations
- directories
- real-time secure systems
- international operational e-training
- real-time large system statistics
- DNS services
- extended network services (including
OPES open plugable edge services)
- network operating system
|
|
10 |
The existing Internet root server
system is organized on a voluntary basis. The Dot-Root experiment
reaffirms and extends this practice by making the it highly reliable
for better security, stability, innovation, proximity services,
respect of national sovereignties. This way it will contribute
to better support of billions of users, their cultures and their
economies. |
